In keeping with its tradition of honoring holy men and women at its parks, Eternal Gardens celebrated last September 12, 2015, Saturday, the blessing and inauguration of the Sta. Rosa de Lima Plaza graced by the beautiful image of the city’s patroness at the Eternal Gardens branch in Barangay Pulong Sta. Cruz, Santa Rosa City.
Rep. Danilo Fernandez of Laguna’s first district and Santa Rosa City mayor Arlene Arcillas joined company executives, headed by Eternal Gardens chairman and chief executive officer D. Edgard A. Cabangon, in the celebration, which began with a holy mass at the park grounds in front of the new plaza, officiated by Rev. Fr. Jose P. Segudo of the Our Mother of Perpetual Help Parish.
After the mass, the attendees, who included some members of the sales force, officers and staff from the branch and head office, and other guests, proceeded to the plaza for the ribbon cutting, blessing, and unveiling of the dedication and prayer markers on two sides of the plazas, also officiated by Fr. Segudo. The 14-foot statue of Sta. Rosa de Lima, who is the patroness of the City of Santa Rosa and the Philippines, was made by veteran sculptor Conrado F. Balubayan.
Moments after the blessing, Eternal Gardens founder and chairman emeritus Ambassador Antonio L. Cabangon Chua, who was not expected to attend the event due to an illness, surprised everyone when he arrived at the venue shortly before the brief program, to the delight of everyone. During the program, the guests of honor, as well as Ambassador Cabangon Chua, gave their special messages. Congressman Fernandez, in his brief message, commended the Eternal Gardens management with a pun for a “job well Dan (done)” in building a plaza honoring the patroness of the city. He himself, he said, has bought a property at Eternal Gardens Santa Rosa, which is proof not only of his support for the company but also of his great trust in the products of Eternal Gardens.
Mayor Arcillas, meanwhile, expressed her most heartfelt gratitude to the management of Eternal Gardens for giving the people of Santa Rosa a beautiful and imposing statue of their beloved patroness. ‘The reason why the City of Santa Rosa remains peaceful, beautiful, and progressive is we are under the guidance of Sta. Rosa de Lima,” she said, adding that the new plaza was not only built for the park but also for the people of Santa Rosa City, and that she will let her constituents know of the beautiful new plaza at the park. She also thanked Ambassador Cabangon Chua for investing in their city and helping its progress, not only with Eternal Gardens but also with the other companies under his conglomerate that have a branch in Santa Rosa.
In response, the chairman emeritus also expressed his thanks to all those who came to celebrate this new milestone for the company. He shared how Sta. Rosa de Lima has always had a place in his heart because they share the same birthday, which is August 30. “It just so happened that my mother was a devotee of San Antonio, so she named me after him,” he said. Ambassador Cabangon Chua also thanked the sales managers and agents who have always been very supportive of the company and who constantly work hard for its success.
Before the program ended, Fernandez, Arcillias, and Fr. Segudo were each presented a small statue of Sta. Rosa de Lima as a token of gratitude from the management of Eternal Gardens.
The special gathering was capped by a sumptuous lunch at the park office.
