Vice President Maria Leonor G. Robredo, together with daughters Jillian and Tricia, led family, friends and supporters of former Interior Secretary and Naga City Mayor Jesse M. Robredo in commemorating his fifth death anniversary on Friday, August 18. A Thanksgiving Mass was celebrated at Eternal Gardens Naga, where the crypt of Secretary Robredo can be found.
Among the government officials present during the Mass were Sens. Risa Hontiveros-Baraquel and Bam Aquino, and Naga City Mayor John Bongat. The Museo ni Jesse Robredo, a museum featuring the life and achievements of the beloved son of Naga, was also inaugurated on that day. It is located at the Naga Civic Center on J. Miranda Avenue corner Taal Avenue, Naga City. Secretary Robredo perished in a plane crash on August 18, 2012.
President Benigno Aquino III joined the family, friends, and supporters of the late Interior and Local Government Secretary Jesse Robredo in commemorating the third anniversary of his death yesterday at the Eternal Gardens in Naga City.
Robredo’s widow, Camarines Sur third district representative Leni Robredo, and three daughters welcomed the president who was accompanied by some members of his Cabinet, namely Interior Secretary Mar Roxas, Justice Secretary Leila de Lima, Presidential Management Staff chief Julia Abad, Transportation Secretary Joseph Emilio Abaya, Social Welfare Secretary Dinky Soliman, Education Secretary Armin Luistro, Budget Secretary Florencio Abad, and Presidential Spokesperson Edwin Lacierda.
Local officials also graced the event, including Naga City mayor John Bongat, vice mayor Nelson Legacion, members of the City Council, and barangay officials.
Naga City also celebrated the third Jesse Robredo Day, a holiday in honor of the city’s beloved son and former mayor, whose simplicity , effective leadership, and integrity continue to inspire Nagueños and many Filipinos today.
Robredo died in a plane crash on August 18, 2012.
